Leading Financial ISV achieves application
migration to open source JBoss application server |
|
|
Patni's accelerated migration methodology helped a leading financial software product company quickly
migrate its application to an open source application server.
The Client
The client is a leading
provider of Financial
Services and provides
web based solutions and
services for buying &
selling of stocks and
bonds.
The Challenge
With the market showing a marked preference towards open source, the client was
keen on migrating its application hosted on BEA Weblogic 8.1 to an open source
application server. After evaluating a host of open source application servers, JBoss
was selected as the application server.
In addition to modifying the application for the new platform, the client wanted to
ensure the following:
 |
Backward compatibility |
 |
Option to move to other emerging application server platforms if needed
without major design and code changes |
 |
Minimal support requirement for configuration changes for features such as
password encryption and hot deployment. |
The Solution
Patni was a natural choice for migrating the application to an open source application server
as it was working with the client in developing and maintaining the suite of products on the
earlier platform, and also had the domain expertise to effect the migration to JBoss 3.2.3.
After an extensive assessment of the existing environment, Patni developed the migration
plan for transitioning the application to the JBoss platform. This plan was designed to provide
complete visibility and predictability to the client during the lifecycle of the project - from
environment setup to testing and deployment. Using Patni's accelerated migration
methodology, the application was transitioned to the new JBoss platform and deployed into
production in less than 12 weeks.
To ensure a robust application, the migration included Smoke testing, critical functionality
testing and regression testing. Some of the features of JBoss such as caching were leveraged
for speeding up application performance.
