Patni enables seamless migration of business
processes from Oracle to SAP global instance |
Leveraging Patni's proven experience in supporting multi-country SAP implementations, a global
player in the specialty materials business solved acquisition related integration hurdles by seamlessly
transitioning processes on Oracle to SAP.
The Client
The client is a global player in
the specialty materials
business.
The Challenge
With the objective of enhancing its product portfolio, the client had acquired
a specialist company who had a strong portfolio of complementary products.
The acquisition brought forward integration challenges, as the acquired
company's business processes were on Oracle, while the client's systems
were based on a SAP backbone. The client's business processes were
supported by a single global instance of SAP 4.6b which had all critical
modules of R/3, while the acquired company was running on Oracle
Applications 11.0.2 in four locations, and UF Soft in one location.
To gain complete visibility into operations and standardize business
processes, there was a strong business case for bringing all the transaction
systems under a single umbrella. The challenge was to move the business
processes of the acquired company from Oracle to the SAP global instance
with minimal business impact on daily operations. To add to the complexity,
the acquired company's business operations supported by Oracle were
spread across different geographies, requiring extensive multi-lingual and
localization support.
The Solution
With proven experience in supporting and executing multi-country, multi-currency
and multi-lingual SAP implementations for global organizations, Patni was a
preferred choice. Patni worked closely with the client for understanding the client's
business processes, and recommended a systematic approach to minimize business
impact, while ensuring speedy implementation. This involved understanding the
business processes and harmonization of the workflows according to the SAP global
template. A key element of this initiative was Patni's extensive resource pool of
cross-functional and multi-lingual (Korean, English, Mandarin) people who were
responsible for ensuring that there was absolute coherence between the rollout
team & key process groups.
Identification of areas of non-conformance in process requirements was done using
SAP 4.6 as a footprint. Patni used its proprietary Oracle to SAP mapping table for
Master Data & Transaction Data conversion. The data migration activity included
data collection & verification support to the client users. Subsequently, Patni
developed an execution strategy to provide ABAP support for interfaces, script
forms and non-standard SAP functionality.
This was followed by user acceptance testing and user training for the entire user
community. Subsequently, post go-live support of six weeks was given to provide
training and transitioning to the existing client support team. The implementation
was executed using SAP's standard implementation methodology, ASAP, which led to
timely completion in 22 weeks.
